Kenny kept his cool to win his third gold of the Rio Games.
He said: “I could watch Laura’s points race as relaxed as possible, although I missed the end because I went to the toilet”.
“It’s not the week we’d been aiming for, that’s for sure”, cycling team leader Kevin Tabotta said of the Australian track results. “Ultimately, the right decision was made”.
The 28-year-old, known as the Farnworth Flame, won every sprint title in Rio, the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin, taking him level on six Olympic titles with his mentor and idol Chris Hoy as Britain’s leading gold medal collector.
As for Trott, who is Kenny’s fiancee, her victory in the omnium saw her become Britain’s most successful female Olympian with her fourth gold.

Trott declared her love for her man in a tweet. Her accomplishment came from a pair of gold medals in the London Games as well as a gold in the team pursuit this past weekend and gold in the women’s omnium Tuesday.
“[I’ll] probably take the dogs for a walk [when I get home]”.
“But I would like to add that in these four years we’ve won 12 world titles”, he said.
“It’s amusing I love the Olympics and the atmosphere in the village”, the self-effacing Kenny told reporters.

“I hope [life doesn’t change]”. I like my life’. “It used to frustrate me a little bit with the guys around me getting cars and bits and pieces like that, but I like to flounder around doing what I like”.
