The conviction caused a stir amongst Kiwi MPs this year, with anti-domestic violence campaigners and Minister for Women Louise Upston against his visit.

‘Mr Brown and the promoters both remain positive that the tour will take place in the near future, ‘ it read.
Ticketek Australia released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming Brown’s Australian and New Zealand tour scheduled for December had been scrapped.
“Just recently, his promoters put out a statement saying they express their ‘deepest gratitude to the fans for their support and look forward to a successful tour in the near future”.
The tour’s viability was thrown into doubt in September, when the advocacy group GetUp! petitioned for Brown to be refused entry to Australia over his conviction for domestic violence.

In 2009, Brown was convicted of assault and threatening to kill his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
R&B singer Chris Brown has cancelled his New Zealand show.
“My life mistakes should be a wake up call for everyone”, he tweeted in September.
The Department of Border Control and Immigration has been contacted for comment. “Trying to prevent spousal abuse”.
Support for Brown’s New Zealand visa application came from an unlikely source: Dame Tariana Turia said she would support Brown’s application.
Brown later said he wanted to go to Australia to use his influence as an entertainer to “raise awareness about domestic violence”.

His feelings were quite clear about the singer when he said: “This is a government that is not afraid to say no”.
