Chris Johnson Expected To Sign With Cardinals

Johnson signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals on Monday, one day after passing a physical with the team.

Former Pirate Chris Johnson is back on board with an NFL team. Since his fantasy breakout year in 2009, he has been average at best, and last season with the Jets he had his first sub-1000 yard rushing season. The Cardinals defense should be eager to redeem itself after allowing 370 yards total and 31 points in the second and third quarter.

Johnson was one of three men shot at a red light in Orlando.

After seven seasons of trying to run through, over and around eight or nine defenders in the box, Johnson was tired of it. And he wanted to get back to the playoffs, where he hasn’t spent a January since his rookie season in 2008 with the Tennessee Titans.

“And then once I got cleared, I starting doing upper-body again and got my strength back, so it turned out to be great in the end”. Johnson said that after the shooting he had bed rest for six weeks and lost 25 pounds. Look for Johnson to be sharing snaps with Ellington as the season approaches.

There’s one last step in Chris Johnson’s recovery from a gunshot wound suffered in March: getting back on a football field.

Johnson obviously isn’t that kind of 1,300-yard player, but he isn’t completely done yet.

Arians said Johnson had been “on our radar for some time. Except for a bullet in his trap”.

With the first preseason game all said and done, we have a few questions answered about how the Arizona Cardinals stand.

“I didn’t want to go anywhere that wasn’t a winning team or somebody that was on the verge of winning”, Johnson said. “I think it’s a good fit for him”.

That scenario is not likely, but Cardinals coach Bruce Arians would not rule it out. His contract says that with 1,300 yards and a Pro Bowl appearance, Johnson could make up to $2 million. Five months of rehabbing and working out was evident when Johnson met with the team Monday.
