Huddersfield Town have announced that they have sacked manager Chris Powell after 13 months in charge.

Powell’s assistant, Alex Dyer, has also left the club.

Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle will now look for his fifth manager since taking over the west Yorkshire club in June 2009.

Telegraph Sport understands the decision has not been made exclusively on results, with Powell and the board thought to have had conflicting views on a number of issues including transfer policy, and the club are determined to move in a new direction. The 46-year-old former Charlton boss was appointed Terriers manager in September 2014 and guided them to safety in the Championship last season. “He now leaves us well placed for the future challenges ahead”, added Mr Clibbens.

However, after drawing 2-2 to promotion hopefuls, Reading, on Tuesday in the Championship, Huddersfield lingered down in 18th in the league on just 15 points in 15 games.

“With his skills and qualities as a person, it won’t be too long before Chris finds a new challenge and we wish him success when that comes”.

Academy Manager Mark Lillis will take charge for the club’s next game against bitter rivals Leeds, their last fixture before November’s worldwide break.
