Chris Rock Calls the Oscars the ‘White BET Awards’
The 2016 Academy Award nominations were announced on Thursday, prompting a lot of needed and important criticism on the Internet.

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who did not appear in any nominated films, posted a three-part comment on Twitter. She asked whether or not people of color should boycott the Oscars, a question that many are also asking.
This year’s Oscar nominations are incredibly controversial based entirely on the fact that not one person of color was nominated for a major award.
It didn’t take long for the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag to begin trending again on social media.
She added, “People can only treat us in the way in which we allow. With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment”, Smith continued.
This year, Will Smith (Concussion), Michael B. Jordan (Creed), Idris Elba (Beasts), Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight), Straight Outta Compton and Beasts of No Nation were listed among the snubs for black actors and movies focused on black stories. We just imagine that this is going to be a key part of the conversation when Rock actually hosts this show, which will probably be to huge ratings even without some of the diversity many people are looking for.
Last year, Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs said she didn’t think the Academy had a problem recognizing diversity.

We can bet that host Chris Rock will have something to say on February 28, 2016.
