Chris Rock wasn’t first choice to host Oscars?

As well as this, TalkTalk’s also launched its own “Award Season” collection, which sees Oscar-nominated movies including The Martian, Inside Out, Mad Max: Fury Road along with previous winners including 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and The Imitation Game available to rent for £3.45 a throw.

Some of the top performances in 2016 have featured a variety of subject matter from “Spotlight”, which covers the sex abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church in Boston, to “The Revenant” and its tales of survival and revenge in the 19th century Pacific Northwest.

“Jamie Foxx, Morgan, Beyoncé – it was like the Def Oscar Jam”, Rock says in the clip, which was recently resurfaced on Vulture. Rock confessed that he deliberated over joining the Oscars boycott and bowing out as host, but concluded: “The last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart”. Back-to-back best picture wins for “Birdman” director Inarritu would be unprecedented. And even then, the top three prizes – best actress (Brie Larson), best actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and best film (“Spotlight”) – had yet to be announced.

Leonardo DiCaprio, the forgone best-actor victor for “The Revenant”, used the platform to talk about his life’s passion outside of acting – climate change, which got a “thank you” from the official White House Instagram account.

But Rock’s cryptic tweet early Friday morning shows the controversy is clearly on his agenda as host.

The film academy has also rolled out a new wrinkle to the show.

Security around Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue is especially heighted because Vice President Joe Biden will be attending to give a special presentation with Lady Gaga aimed at combating sexual violence.

“I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day, ‘ said Smith”.

Down the street from the Dolby Theatre, Sharpton led several dozen demonstrators in protest against a second straight year of all-white acting nominees.

“Most of the people in the room are nervous because they are either nominated themselves or affiliated with a film or studio, so they are not the most receptive audience”.

Rock also sought to add perspective to the turmoil.

“It’s not enough to listen and agree”, said Boone Isaacs.
