Chris Sale gets ball in opener again for White Sox at A’s

Bassitt, who learned he was tipping pitches late last season, has worked on an altered delivery. In close games it typically ends up being a play like that, a play or two defensively that you should make … The second of those two runs would be the game-winning score.

The Chicago White Sox start their season on the road, as they head to Oakland, California to take on the Oakland A’s on MLB Opening Day! Each side scored all of their runs in the third, with Jose Abreu and Jimmy Rollins scoring on a wild pitch to give Chicago a four-run lead.

This will be Gray’s third full Major League season. “We’ve been going through a process here that began midway through 2013 in terms of retooling this club and getting ourselves back in a position to contend”.

Oakland’s one real reliable asset is Sonny Gray.

Sale allowed seven hits and walked one.

The left-hander went seven innings.

Bassitt held the Sox to three hits over four scoreless innings to start his night. Jed Lowrie then changed the complexion of the game with a two-run single to cut the Sox’s lead in half.

With two outs, Melky Cabrera hit a bouncer up the middle that Marcus Semien made a nice play to get, but he threw high to first and the throw went off Mark Canha’s glove.

Lowrie walked against reliever Jake Petricka to start the eighth and moved up to second with one out, but Nate Jones came out of the Chicago bullpen to get Valencia to pop up and Khris Davis to strike out.

Doubront left his final spring training start on Sunday with forearm tightness and underwent an MRI Sunday night, one that revealed elbow trouble for the 29-year-old left-handed starter.

The A’s signed Hill in the offseason, enticed by a four-start stint with the Boston Red Sox in which he was 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA after reinventing his delivery playing in independent ball.

NOTES: A’s RHP Sonny Gray was scratched from his scheduled start because of food poisoning.
