Chris Sale has been scratched from tonight’s scheduled start

“We put this team together in the wintertime thinking this team is the team that’s going to compete and get us into the playoffs, and we’re going to stay that course”.

The game, interrupted three times by thunderstorms, will resume Sunday before the final contest of the series.

There is one source that reported Sale was upset about wearing a throwback uniform, so he ripped it so no one could wear it.

Matt Albers started in Sale’s place. “But we’re here for teammates”. He’s a step down from Sale but has a lifetime 3.42 ERA and has reached 200 innings each of the last three seasons.

“I’m right where I want to be”, Sale said last month.

In a statement, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Sale was involved in a pre-game clubhouse incident and was sent home from the stadium.

The Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox will continue a weird evening on Sunday afternooon.

The White Sox marketing department described the night as the “Throwback Game”. The start of the game was delayed by rain.

Morosi’s tweet instantly led to speculation that an agreement was in place for Chris Sale to be shipped off via trade to a contender, presumably the Dodgers, Rangers, or Red Sox; more on all of that in a jiff.

The left-hander, known for his competitive streak and rigorous training program, has been outspoken in the past.

The ace publicly called out Kenny Williams, the team’s executive vice president, after Adam LaRoche quit the team because his son was no longer allowed to visit the clubhouse everyday.

A five-time All-Star and leading Cy Young candidate, Sale in recent days has been the subject of trade rumors.

And that’s when the baseball world started having fun with this story.

Justin Upton’s solo home run – his 11th of the season – off White Sox reliever Tommy Kahnle made it a one-run game in the sixth.

Rosenthal also followed up with comments by network analyst Tom Verducci saying that what Sale did, by definition inside the player contract, was insubordination.

More immediately, though, what exactly happened in the clubhouse before Saturday’s game against the Tigers? Manager Brad Ausmus said he wants to give Saltalamacchia some starts even though C James McCann is healthy.

But Sale has been allowed to pick his jersey for every previous start, as every Sox starter does, they explained. “Control what you can control, that’s playing the game”.

“We’re going to keep that in-house”, Albers said. GM Al Avila said if there are no setbacks he’ll join the team Monday in Boston….

With injured players such as starting pitchers Daniel Norris and Jordan Zimmermann and outfielder J.D. Martinez nearing returns from the disabled list, the Tigers are expected to be quiet before the August 1 trade deadline.

TWINS: C Kurt Suzuki left in the second inning after getting hit in the mask with a foul ball.
