Chris Sale scratched, sent home by White Sox for ‘incident’

There was a bit of a stir surrounding the Chicago White Sox when they abruptly announced before tonight’s game that their starting pitcher and ace Chris Sale was benched following a pregame “non-physical” incident. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported in March that the pitcher “accused executive vice president Ken Williams of lying to players” after Adam LaRoche retired before the season.

In a season as freakish as this one, a scenario where Chris Sale would be sent home reportedly for cutting up uniforms so the White Sox could wear his preferred jerseys seemed par for the course.

“The incident, which was non-physical in nature, now is under further investigation by the club”, Hahn said.

The five-time All-Star leads the American League with 14 wins and has a 3.18 ERA and is 71-43 with a 2.97 ERA for his career.

The 27-year-old Sale was the 13th overall pick out of Florida Gulf Coast in 2010 and has been selected as an All-Star five times. FanRag Sports and other outlets reported an upset Sale destroyed collared throwback jerseys the team was scheduled to wear.

Fulmer only threw 12 of 30 pitches for strikes and allowed three game-deciding runs in seventh inning of the White Sox 7-5 loss to the Detroit Tigers in front of 22,611 at U.S. Cellular Field Friday night.

GIANTS: Johnny Cueto was set to start for San Francisco against the New York Yankees on Saturday and Jeff Samardzija in the series finale, which Giants manager Bruce Bochy said was his plan all long.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Sale has had a conflict with a member of management this year.

Chicago White Sox ace Chris Sale might not be the guy for the Red Sox, regardless of his involvement in a freaky incident yesterday.

The White Sox eventually might come off their demands, but they’re not going to cave and they need not hurry.

The White Sox responded with two runs against left-hander Matt Boyd in the second inning.

General manager Rick Hahn said Thursday he was “extremely disappointed” with how the Sox have been playing and said the club was “mired in mediocrity.”. RHP Jordan Zimmerman (neck) is on schedule for a rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Toledo. “Control what you can control, that’s playing the game”.

Needless to say, this situation is: developing! Avila suggested early August as a return date for RF J.D. Martinez (broken elbow).

Update (8:38 p.m.): The White Sox are wearing different throwbacks tonight, but these were the original throwbacks that were given away to fans.

NOTE: White Sox 2B Brett Lawrie (hamstring) remained out of the lineup for the second consecutive game. Those usually are worn during Sunday home games. He allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout in two innings.
