Chris Smalling: ‘Manchester United players must show character against Watford’
Jose Mourinho is expected to ring in the changes after he suggested it will be back to usual as his side try to keep up with Manchester City in the early stages of the campaign.

And he says Jose Mourinho’s team must bounce back at Watford in Sunday’s noon kick-off Premier League fixture because a third consecutive defeat will be “unacceptable”.
Midfielder Tonny Trindade de Vilhena broke the deadlock in a tight Group A match when he side-footed the ball just inside David de Gea’s right-hand post in the 79th minute, after running onto a cutback from the right by Nicolai Jorgenson.
“I played with enough good players to win the match”, Mourinho added. You lose matches and people are sad and they feel it.
“I know they want to win, they want to work and that is what we have to do”. “We need to stand up and be counted on Sunday”. I think both of these results is a punishment for the team because we did not deserve it.
“I don’t like to individualise too much”, Mourinho said.
Rashford has spoken to the club’s official Inside United magazine about how Cristiano Ronaldo inspired him as a youngster.
‘I have made mistakes because I am human and I can do that but what I am not going to do is give up, never’.
“I think if anything, that’s a good thing”, the centre-back said of the quick turnaround. “I know that the situation is not click your fingers and everybody is ideal”.
“That’s the normal nature of football players, but I’m here not to let them be in a negative mood or in a negative period because we lost two matches in four days”. It is in that moment where we lose the game and double unlucky because it is a clear offside. We didn’t have many chances against us and their goal was a clear offside – we were unfortunate with that.
Speaking about Sunday’s EPL game against Watford, Mourinho said: “First of all I have players that are not here, I have players that didn’t play here for 90 minutes, so it’s not a problem of accumulation”.

“I think we came into this game very confident and we thought we’d get a good result”, Smalling told MUTV, who was named captain in Wayne Rooney’s absence.
