Chris Stapleton, Maren Morris, Eric Church lead CMA nods
The Country Music Assocation chose Ballerini as a contender in its Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year categories for the 2016 CMA Awards.

Stapleton, as country fans know, had a career-changing night at the 2015 CMAs, as the industry favorite stunned everyone by beating out more mainstream acts in picking up three awards – and then performed a duet with Justin Timberlake that went viral and helped send Stapleton’s music sales soaring.
Church has been dropped from the Entertainer of the Year category after earning his first bid last year.
Carrie Underwood is among the musicians earning the most Country Music Association Award nominations, with several musicians with ties to the state earning recognition Wednesday morning.
The performance at the Big E is free with admission to the fair.
In the male vocalist of the year category, nominees include Dierks Bentley, Church, Tim McGraw, Stapleton and Urban.
Though Church was left out of that race, he’s up for male vocalist, along with single, song and music video noms for his emotional track “Record Year”.
Nominees for female vocalist of the year include Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Kacey Murgraves, and Carrie Underwood.
Underwood received four nominations and will host the ceremony again this year with Brad Paisley from Nashville on November 2 on ABC. Joey Feek, who formed the group with her husband Rory, died earlier this year at age 40.
