Chris Weidman will make his next middleweight title defense against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 12th.

Weidman (13-0) will be fighting for the first time since May, when he took out Vitor Belfort in the opening round.

Prior to this win, the Serra-Longo product defended his title at UFC 168 against former middleweight champion and pound-for-pound best Anderson Silva, the very man he won the belt from when he shocked the world at UFC 162 in July 2013. Rockhold is also the No. 1 ranked challenger for the said title against Weidman. Since losing to Belfort in May 2013, Rockhold has reeled off four consecutive wins over Costas Philippou, Tim Boetsch, Michael Bisping, and Machida all by stoppage.

One thing all three of those fighters have in common though is that they are all in the later stages of their careers, while Weidman’s next opponent, Rockhold, is in a similar position as the champion, still being in his prime at the age of 30.

The UFC typically gives the higher weight class top billing when two title fights are on the same card.
