Christian leaders come to Donald Trump’s defense amid spat with ‘confused’ pope
Some have commented that the Pope’s statement on Trump’s plan to build a wall is hypocritical.

Lombardi also noted that the Pope said he was not sure exactly what Trump had said about illegal immigration and “would give him the benefit of the doubt” until he did. Lombardi said the Pope’s comments, which were denounced by Trump, were simply an affirmation of his belief that migrants should be helped rather than shut off behind walls.
Pope Francis had made the above remarks concerning Trump only three hours after the conclusion of his Mexico sojourn by presiding over the large Mass held in Ciudad Juarez, a city on the US-Mexico border.
Earlier this week, a reporter in Mexico asked Pope Francis about the idea of building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, the pope said it was not Christian.
“My opinion as a Christian isn’t spouting your mouth off and then apologizing for it. Think before you speak and say something that’s Christian”, Laurel Hertz said. Pastor Shirk says he agrees with the pope in some ways.
The Trump-Pope showdown seems to be coming to a close.
Religious leaders are coming to Donald Trump’s defense after Pope Francis suggested Thursday that the Republican presidential candidate “is not Christian”.
In turn, Francis reportedly laughed and stated, “Thank God he said I was a politician because Aristotle defined the human person as ‘animal politicus'”.
Speaking to Sean Hannity on Premier Radio Networks’ “The Sean Hannity Show”, megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress echoed some of the words Trump said Thursday in rebuttal to the pope’s comments about his faith, according to a clip from Media Matters.
The answer was in response to Trump’s well-known and frequently touted stance on illegal immigration, which includes building a massive wall along the US-Mexico border. Trump called a religious leader questioning a person’s faith “disgraceful”.
“It’s very disappointing that the pope, the Holy Father, a man who is beloved throughout the entire world, that his character is called into question at any time”, Hains said. “I would therefore like to ask, first of all, what you think of those charges against you, and if an American Catholic could vote for a person like this?” “Because the Mexican government convinced him that Trump is not a good guy”, he went on.

He noted that if ISIS attacks the Vatican, “I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President, because this would not have happened”.
