“I want to continue [like this], maintaining my level of performance, trying to win things for Madrid, keeping up my rate of goals and assists, helping my club achieve their goals of winning La Liga, the Champions League and Copa del Rey and qualifying Portugal for the World Cup”.

France worldwide Griezmann suffered at the hands of Bale and Ronaldo as his Atletico side were beaten in the Champions League final, missing a penalty in normal time, but was top scorer at Euro 2016 with six goals as hosts France reached the final.

Before the draw, the main attraction was Cristiano Ronaldo, who won the UEFA Player of the Year for the second consecutive time.

The presentation was made after Real were drawn in the Champions League’s Group F for this season with Legia Warsaw, Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night.

“I work hard myself but without their help, this would not be possible”, he added. “My team-mates are the key they are the key every year”. RMA has won Champions League two times in the last three seasons.

The average retirement age for a footballer these days is 35-years-old so if the Portugal captain does indeed have ambitions to extend his career beyond that point, he will have to look after his body better than ever.
