“Did Chris Christie just declare war on China?” was among the most pressing questions following the opening volleys of Republican debate night, Telegraph.

Huckabee, also on MSNBC, said that “I feel like that sometimes we let national polls drive who gets to participate in the debate, and national polls don’t mean a whole lot at this point”.

“Listen, I have no idea, you’ll have to get Governor Jindal on and ask him why he made the decisions he made”, Christie responded.

The smaller crowd may give candidates more of a chance to make their pitches and draw contrasts, but they’ll have to make a big impression to be remembered once the main debate begins at 9 p.m. ET. What do you think’s going to happen when Hillary Clinton is elected President of the U.S.?

Fox Business Network promoted the pair of debates the promise that the moderators would be more prepared than their CNBC counterparts from the last GOP debate.

Early on in the debate, there was a crucial moment where the absurdity of Christie’s position became evident. Bobby Jindal in particular went after Christie again and again, declaring that his own record as governor of Louisiana is far more of a conservative model than Christie’s in New Jersey.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal says the United States is “on the path to socialism”.

During the evening, Jindal and Christie were joined by former Pennsylvania Sen. Deeply unpopular in New Jersey, Mr. Christie may be dead in the water, but he didn’t act like it tonight.

The relegation to the undercard is the latest blow for Christie, who has struggled to emerge in a packed field led by political newcomers — most notably billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump, who has effectively stolen Christie’s tell-it-like-it-is calling card. “Wait until you see what Hillary Clinton will do to this country and how she will drown us in debt”. “I think voters want clarification on exactly what steps these candidates would take to generate economic growth”. “It’s hurting the American economy”, Christie says.

After sharing the stage with the frontrunners the first three GOP debates, Christie hoped to have a breakout night and get back to the main debate. And here’s what I believe as a Republican, I believe the greatness of America is not in its government.

“Your question stinks”, said Jindal.

Speaking Friday in New Hampshire, where he filed to appear on the state’s primary ballot, Christie said what matters is his message.

Clinton is “coming for your wallet, everybody”, Christie told the crowd in a downtown theater.

“We need a real, principled conservative”, Santorum said. “And, she was stopped then by a strong group of republicans, and an American public that said, ‘No, thank you, ‘” said Mr. Christie, who is the Governor of New Jersey that has a significant Indian-American population.
