“We are, however, mostly excited for the opportunity to work with Speaker Prieto and Senate President Sweeney to support citizens of New Jersey through carefully allocated tax revenue that also provides relief for the Atlantic City community”.

Christie said the pensions benefit the chosen few. Christie says to give into the democrats would mean increased sales tax or state income tax. In one unexpected twist, some lawmakers said they would push for the state to take over the affairs of Atlantic City. “It’s time Atlantic City got it’s act in order, when you have a budget of $262 million for 40,000 people, that is outrageous, so they have to find a way to run government more efficiently”. That’s the message to Atlantic City officials from State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D- West Deptford), who’s introducing a measure that would give the state the power to assume control of AC’s finances.
“The people the governor is calling selfish for expecting the state to pay its fair share on pensions are teachers, school bus drivers, cafeteria workers, firefighters, police officers, nurses and state employees”. He announced $100 million in additional funding for mental-health and substance-abuse services.
“We need to fix this now”, Christie said.
Christie defended his time in office, highlighting the state’s achievements, but his approval rating is at an all time low.
Christie also did not address Atlantic City’s struggles or a proposed constitutional amendment to bring casinos to northern New Jersey.
Since this was the last day of the 2015-2016 legislative session, the matter must pass by a three-fifths majority in the legislature between now and August.
Tuesday’s speech comes as his campaign gains steam in the first-to-vote primary state of New Hampshire, where the governor has picked up key endorsements, risen in the polls and become the focus of sharp attacks from rival camps.
“We have always believed in our brand and are excited that the survey results further support the brand’s strength throughout New Jersey”, states Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International. However, as a presidential candidate, Christie’s positions seemed to have changed.
Local Democrats criticized Mr. Christie for giving what they described as a political speech. Mangino also urged Christie to help Sandy victims facing home foreclosure. That is who I am because that is who New Jersey taught me to be.
The Assembly, which added seven new members, held its reorganization at the War Memorial across from the statehouse in a ceremony that included state police bagpipers. The legislation has already been passed in the state Senate. New Jersey and Maryland are the only states that levy estate and inheritance taxes. The measure is known as the PILOT bill for “payment in lieu of taxes”.
Christie touted his administration’s dedication to fiscal responsibility, claiming that property tax hikes have been consistently curbed under the implemented 2 percent cap after years of over-the-top increases. Once the AG approves a production model, every firearms wholesaler and retailer in the state would be obligated to carry at least one example for sale in their inventory within 30 months and have it on display in their salesroom.
“Next year, [the prison] will re-open for its new mission”, Christie said.
Christie is set to deliver the speech Tuesday afternoon.
