Christine Michael: Cowboys: RB Michael ready to play a role

The Dallas Cowboys are bracing to learn that running back Lance Dunbar will be lost for the season with an ACL injury in his left knee.

David Helman of DallasCowboys.com noted after the Cowboys’ 26-20 OT loss that Dunbar was wearing a “massive brace” on his left leg. Owner Jerry Jones said “It doesn’t sound good” when asked about the injury, per Helman. The Cowboys would answer back that next drive topped off by the 1-yard rushing touchdown by Joseph Randle, jumping over the pile on a dive play at the early part of the second quarter giving the Cowboys a 10-7 lead which would stand until the third quarter.

Replays showed Dunbar’s knee buckling underneath him, and he was unable to put any weight on his left leg after the incident, the Dallas Morning News reported. He’s going to come back.

Mark Ingram gained 126 yards from scrimmage on a combination of runs and short passes, and Khiry Robinson had a 1-yard touchdown run for New Orleans (1-3). “We’ll determine when he’s going to have his surgery as the week goes on”. He also has not been hit in a game since the 2013 season and should be as healthy as any free-agent running back the Cowboys look at. Bryant had five catches for 48 yards before going down in the season opener. No one wants to hear about injuries as a reason for losing games in the National Football League , but at a few point there is just no getting around it.
