Christmas and New Year rubbish collection changes

Only properties due for a collection on a Bank Holiday will have a day change.

Whilst the council normally do not accept plastic bags in recycling bins, to help residents with the extra recycling at Christmas, they will collect extra recycling providing it is left in clear see through carrier bags on top of recycling bins. All residents who have garbage and recycling pick-up scheduled on Fridays will have service on Saturday, Dec. 26 and Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016.

If you usually have a rubbish collection on that Friday or Monday, then you will instead get one on Friday, January 1, or Monday, January 4.

To ensure everyone receives a waste collection, some collection days have moved and may now be earlier or later than the normal day including Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holidays.

With Christmas Day and New Year’s Day being on a Friday this year, the pick-up schedule will jump one day ahead for both of those weeks. For those with wheelie bins, reasonable amounts of household waste will be collected if presented in bags at the side of the bins.

Residents will be able to recycle their excess cardboard packaging and Christmas trees, as well as the usual glass bottles, jars, food and drinks cans. A wide range of other materials including household electrical items, domestic batteries and used cooking oil can also be recycled at these sites.

“Our residents always do a great job of recycling their waste at this time of year and we’re sure they will once again join us in recycling as much as possible this Christmas”.
