A warm air mass pushed across Eastern Canada on Thursday, delivering the hottest Christmas Eve on record to cities across Ontario.

Christmas Eve Forecast: Record-shattering warmth today
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in some parts of the country, but in others it feels more like a typical spring day. Green Christmas wins out this year with record-breaking temperatures making for a holiday that could get Heat Miser singing.

Depending on whom you asked, the weather outside was either frightful or delightful.

A white Christmas is not out of the question for areas of the US West, Plains, and Upper Midwest. It is not out of the question that the record high for the month of December (72) will be challenged today.

“We’re still looking for fairly mild temperatures into next week”, Gill said. The average for December 24 in Toronto is -1 C.

New York City broke its record Friday for the warmest Christmas, continuing a trend expected to last through the holiday weekend.

“We’re living through history, and not of a good kind”, climate activist Bill McKibben told the New York Times this week.

The temperature is expected to reach 61 on Friday, too.

In Islip on Long Island, a record 64 degrees topped the previous record of 56 degrees, set a year ago.
