Christoph Waltz may mentor Rodriguez and Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel
And now the film may have its second star.

At one stage, many many years ago, James Cameron was going to direct the movie himself with everyone from Jessica Alba to Cameron-fave Arnold Schwarzenegger rumoured to be atop of his wish list to lead the cast. And in a shocking twist, he might actually get to play a good guy for once. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the rebuilt Alita becomes a hunter-warrior, tracking down and eliminating vicious criminals.
If Waltz signs on, he would portray Doctor Dyson Ido, the cybernetic doctor who rebuilds Alita’s broken body while acting as a friendly guide to her. All the while, of course, she’s also digging deeper into her own past.
The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.
James Cameron and Jon Landau will produce for Fox under their Lightstorm Entertainment banner.
The film is set to be released in July 2018.
In the U.S., Waltz has made his name playing villains.
Waltz was last seen on the big screen opposite Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie in The Legend of Tarzan, and his other upcoming movies include the period drama Tulip Fever and Alexander Payne’s satirical comedy Downsizing.

Waltz won two Oscars for Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and “Django Unchained”.
