Christopher Guest Bringing “Mascots” to Netflix

Needless to say, October 13th Guest will take us into the unusual world of sports mascots, even if we aren’t ready. The fact that nearly his entire repertoire returns here (although Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy, who are busy on Canada’s Schitt’s Creek, sit this one out) suggests that the balance of old and new should be struck well: Fred Willard, John Michael Higgins, Jennifer Coolidge, Bob Balaban, and Don Lake are all on board, in addition to the headliners like Posey and Lynch, so this should give us exactly what we show up for when we sit down for a Christopher Guest movie. This will be Guest’s first feature in 10 years, following For Your Consideration, and one can see the teaser below, along with a poster, synopsis, and more.

Taking on the competitive world of sports mascots Guest’s new film reunites him some of his regular actors, and is set to play at Toronto next month. The film, which is about the quest for the coveted Gold Fluffy, will star many of Guest’s usual troupe including Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard and Ed Begley, Jr.

“Netflix announced almost a full year ago that the streaming service would be the home to Christopher Guests” long-awaited next mockumentary – and today they shared the release date via a teaser trailer and key art. Likewise, the streaming platform is also prepping a new sci-fi series called ‘Travelers’ from writer Brad Wright, the third season of ‘Bloodline’ for 2017, new episodes of the documentary series ‘Making a Murderer,’ and a feature film adaptation of the manga ‘Death Note’.
