Chronological timeline of the ‘Star Wars’ cinematic universe
Set just before the original film, it features Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso (such a Star Wars name) who embarks on a risky mission to steal the plans for the original Death Star.

Rogue One is part prequel and part sequel: its story is set before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, so it ties the prequels to the original films.
Further, the director also revealed that Rogue One is one of the films related to the Star Wars universe but outside of the main franchise.
Philadelphia-based film writer Scott Weinberg observed that “you could count the important women in the first six Star Wars movies on one hand – nice to see the pendulum swing the other way now”.
Viewers are introduced to one of those rogues – Jyn Erso, played by British actress Felicity Jones.

According to Wired, Jones joins a diverse cast that includes Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Rikz Ahmed and Alan Tudyk. Mon Mothma looks spot on (played by Genevieve O’Reilly, reprising her role from Episode III, thank you George).
Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) off of a script from Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass). Tell us a story we already know the ending to.

Whatever the story is, the trailer for “Rogue One” has confirmed that our heads will be in a galaxy far-far-away each December for years to come.
