Cigarette Use Among New York Teens Is On the Rise
“To ensure public health, the MSAR Government has clearly suggested regulating e-cigarettes as a tobacco product as written in the delivered bill on the amendment of the tobacco control regime, and this has already gone through the first reading in the Legislative Assembly”, the Bureau stated.

Critics also fear that we haven’t seen the long-term health effects of vaping and that regulators and lawmakers should take a stricter stance on taxing e-cigarettes and raising the age at which they can be bought.
Mr Idris said: “Why is the Cabinet rushing into the decision so quickly since the Health Ministry is still looking into the safety of e-cigarettes?”
Germany’s open-door refugee policy may add 810 million cigarettes to the country’s annual consumption this year, a rare increase in a market that has shrunk the past decade. Cities like Costa Mesa are among the most recent to ban their use in parks, while Cerritos recently banned new e-cigarette stores. For example, a 2013 study published in the peer-reviewed journal Tobacco Control concluded that “the levels of potentially toxic compounds in e-cigarette vapor are nine-to-450-fold lower than those in the smoke from conventional cigarettes”.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, e-cigarettes have not been fully studied yet and little is known about the liquids being inhaled.
“This new data are alarming because we know that e-cigarettes and other electronic nicotine delivery systems can establish, maintain and strengthen nicotine addition”, said Lindsay Amico, TFEN youth engagement coordinator. At the other end of the spectrum, fewer than 4% of senior citizens said they had tried vaping.
White adults (15%) were more likely to have vaped at least once than were Latinos (9%), African Americans (7%) and Asian Americans (6%).
E-cigarette products couldn’t be sold to or possessed by minors.
The proposal would make an exception that would allow a few of the shops selling e-cigarette products to offer sampling of the vaping devices and liquid.
The data that is most concerning to health professionals like Hyland is that more than 50 percent of young adults who smoke are using both cigarettes and their electronic substitutes.
