Cilic to meet Murray in Cincinnati final

Cilic was battling against fatigue, too. “I got to obviously serve much better than I did today”.

“I didn’t get broken the last couple of matches and when I was in hard situations I made good choices”, Murray said.

“He had a good win today against Nishikori”, Murray said. “I’d like to thank my team as well”.

“There’s different balls here, and that’s something that’s not easy for a tennis player and you have to be careful with that”, Murray said. The Canadian didn’t have the best start as he got broken in the first game of the match and was not able to recover from that.

“I was serving really well with one racquet, so I stayed with it the entire match, and was switching on my return games to see if I could improve there”. It’s not even close to anything else I had done before.

All told it wasn’t good from Raonic and once again everything has fallen right for the short-priced tournament favourite in a Masters 1000, with Murray’s opponent in the final having endured a very late night on Saturday.

Cilic, who failed to reach the semi-final stage in his last 70 Masters appearances, upset Murray 6-4, 7-5 to claim his maiden Masters title.

Dimitrov was not particularly solid on serve either, as the 2014 US Open champion levelled the match to force a deciding set. Mentally I’m in a good place just now. “So I’m looking forward to NY for sure”. “I’ve played a lot of tennis the last few weeks”. Today there were tough, tricky conditions with the wind.

“There is still one match to go and I will not think yet about this”, Australian Open victor Kerber said after reaching her second final at the venue. After 11 minutes, play was resumed only for Murray to quickly take his chances and break in the first game.

“But it’s a very, very positive week. Day by day I hope that things going to go better”.

A shoulder injury hampered Murray on his run to yet another final, which came on the back of a successful Rio defence of the Olympic gold medal he won at Wimbledon four years ago. The Croat, who split with coach Goran Ivanisevic earlier this year, had only won two ATP 250 titles since then, but this victory suggests he could be a force to be reckoned with in NY.
