She made a posthumous return to the top of the UK music charts with her compilation album The Very Best Of. & Christopher Biggins, 66, told the Mirror: “It’s without question smart, intelligent in that her album has gone to number one”.

Andrew Lloyd Webber, 67, who also attended her funeral, added: “It is fantastic that Cilla is back at number one”.

O’Grady continued: “I don’t know what I’m going to do really”.

Black’s album first entered the top 40 two weeks ago and climbed a further seven places to reach the top spot after she was laid to rest on Thursday.

In the Sixties, Cilla had the biggest selling single by a female artist with her hit Anyone Who Had A Heart.

The Blind Date star’s previous highest-rating album was Cilla Sings a Rainbow, which hit number four in 1966.

This week’s highest climber is Whitney Houston’s The Ultimate Collection, up 43 places to Number 31.

The 75-year-old comedian – who had been close friends with the late singer and TV presenter for over five decades before her tragic death earlier this month – paid tribute to her as he arrived at her funeral in Liverpool this afternoon (20.08.15).

The family issued a statement, saying: “We have all been touched by the public’s outpouring of love for our mother this week, and now to give her a number one album today is absolutely flawless”.

It’s Black’s first ever number one album.
