Cilla Black has lastly scored a number-one album – to which she can be “popping the champagne bottle”, her showbiz buddies stated. “It’s something she always wanted”.
“I hope that a new generation discovers what a really great interpreter of songs she was”.
On Thursday just 600 copies separated the top three with Bullet for My Valentine marginally ahead in the race.
A year later she went one place higher with Cilla Sings a Rainbow, which was her best chart showing until today.
The family issued a statement, saying: “We have all been touched by the public’s outpouring of love for our mother this week, and now to give her a number one album today is absolutely ideal”.
The 75-year-old comedian – who had been close friends with the late singer and TV presenter for over five decades before her tragic death earlier this month – paid tribute to her as he arrived at her funeral in Liverpool this afternoon (20.08.15).
Dan Chalmers, president of Black’s Rhino record label, said: “This Number 1 is a reflection of the special place Cilla Black occupied in the hearts of the British public and a fitting tribute to an icon who shaped popular music and entertainment”. Bullet’s fellow Welsh band, pop punk act Neck Deep are celebrating their first Top 10 UK chart position, clocking in at number eight with their new Rock Sins approved album Life’s Not Out To Get You (read our review of the new Neck Deep album here).

Black has an impressive chart history, with six top 40 albums and 11 singles reaching the top 10, the second highest for any British female.
