Cillessen aiming to make life hard for Luis Enrique at Barcelona

Ajax goalkeeper Cillessen might be brought to Barcelona to add competition to the role between the sticks, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen expected to take the reins after Bravo’s exit to City.

The Netherlands worldwide, signed for €13m (£11.1m), was unveiled by the La Liga champions on Friday after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Nou Camp.

Cillessen looks set to complete a move to the Camp Nou on Friday, replacing Manchester City-bound Claudio Bravo at the club, and De Boer feels the Netherlands global will be able to compete with Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Former Ajax and Barcelona midfielder Ronald De Boer has said Cillessen has the experience needed to thrive in Spain if he completes his move from Amsterdam. I can only make it harder and, although I have yet to adapt [to life at Barcelona], I hope to make it difficult for Luis Enrique.

“I’m very proud to be joining Manchester City”.

Bravo is known for his passing skills, something sought by new City manager Pep Guardiola.

“Now I will challenge the other great goalkeepers the club has and together I hope we can win many trophies”.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been tracked by the Spanish giants for some time, and now the Dutchman has sealed a switch to Camp Nou.

“Claudio is a fantastic goalkeeper and an excellent addition to our squad”, said Guardiola.

Ter Stegen will now play a pivotal part in continuing that tradition, and after making just seven La Liga appearances past year, he’ll have a much bigger role to look forward to.

Bravo has played all three of Barca’s competitive fixtures so far this season, with Ter Stegen strugging with a knee injury and Jordi Masip having made just one league appearance for the club.
