An apology was issued Tuesday from officials at University of Cincinnati Medical Center where the remains of a newborn were lost.

The UC Health system’s president has now apologized for the “unacceptable situation” and pledged that it would never be allowed to happen again.
A landfill was searched last weekend, but the remains weren’t found.
Cincinnati Police Captain Terri Theetge tells WKRC-TV that the stillborn baby’s remains were found but the boy’s had been lost.
The body was mistakenly disposed of by someone at UC Medical Center, officials said.
Lofgren declared that an investigator squad appeared to be brushing over “every basic fact, every method, when action” that resulted in the experience to understand what happened. “We have already begun to put in place steps to ensure that this kind of tragic human error can not occur again”, hospital President Richard Lofgren said in the statement.
The southeast Ohio landfill where the search was conducted receives 6,000 tons of municipal waste and construction and demolition debris daily from Cincinnati-area homes and businesses, Yeager said.
No remains were found at the landfill, said Molly Yeager, Rumpke’s communications supervisor. A hospital spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking more information Tuesday.
Police said it was not a criminal investigation but UC Medical Center sent a statement of apology.
