Cirque du Soleil announced Wednesday that Paramour, its first production created specifically for Broadway, will première on the Great White Way in the spring of 2016.
The theater was formerly the home of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark”, when the venue was known as the Foxwoods Theatre.
Tickets to the general public go on sale on August 27.
“Paramour” will be directed by Philippe Decoufle under the “artistic guidance” of Jean-Francois Bouchard, with Pascale Henrot and West Hyler also aboard as associate creative directors.
The show is being developed by French stage director and choreographer Philippe Decouflé, with music composed by Quebec duo Guy Dubuc and Marc Lessard (known as Bob and Bill), whose credits include the video game Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and past Cirque shows Totem, Amaluna, Kurios, Joya and Allavita.
Like “Iris”, the new production will have a movie theme, taking place during the Golden Age of Hollywood.
The rumors from March this year were true and Cirque du Soleil is set to move into the Lyric Theatre, which will soon be vacated by On the Town .
Quidam features 46 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors showcasing spectacular aerial feats and astonishing human agility.
A Cirque du Soleil cast member performs during Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show, which was intended to have a long run, closed after six weeks following negative reviews and poor box-office receipts.
Currently, Cirque has almost 20 shows – touring and permanent – playing worldwide, with the company estimating that almost 15 million people took in a Cirque performance previous year.

“Paramour” is the latest attempt by Cirque to diversify beyond its acrobatic productions and traveling big-top shows.
