Nevada County offices, along with those of Grass Valley and Nevada City, will be closed on Monday, Columbus Day. Many people have the day off from work and are wondering if banks are open, if there is mail delivery, and if stores like Walmart, Costco, and Target are open on Monday, October 12. But Costco stores will remain open on Columbus Day.

Because Columbus Day is a federal holiday, your letter carrier will not be delivering mail on Monday.
Most schools will also be closed.
With the long holiday weekend fast approaching for Columbus Day, which is scheduled to be celebrated on Monday, October 12, many offices and organizations have made plans to close for the national commemoration of the disputed discoverer of the New World: Christopher Columbus. State liquor stores will be open. The warehouse club takes off holidays including Easter Sunday and Memorial Day but NOT Columbus Day.

Recycling and trash pickup will follow the regular schedule on Monday, as will services provided by the Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District. This has been the practice as well in previous years and likely will be for years to come.
