Manuel Pellegrini credited Willy Caballero as the architect of Manchester City’s penalty shoot-out victory over Liverpool in the League Cup final.

The win gave Manchester City its fourth Capital One Cup trophy having won it in 1970, 1976 and in 2014 while for Liverpool it will be their fourth runner-up stint in the cup after winning it eight times with the last in 2012.
“I’d rather lose the title than lose my word”.
“We tried everything. I can be proud of a lot of things, but to be honest I expect we can do these things, so it’s not easy to be proud of things you think is normal”.
Speaking after the game, the Chilean said: “I was concerned about the amount of chances we missed”.
“Going to extra time and penalties is hard but at the end of the day we are happy because we won”.
The keeper was a virtual spectator for the first 90 minutes that ended 1-1.
Liverpool will undoubtedly be eager to get their revenge on City for the Sunday defeat, and they could put a huge dent in the Sky Blues’ title hopes if they claim all three points.
UEFA Champions League hopefuls City had taken the lead earlier in the game as well, Fernandinho firing in from a tight angle from Agüero’s pass on 49 minutes.
“I think it was the right decision but until now I have heard nothing about the real issue, so I have to wait for the final judgement of the Doc”.
“We are not giving up on the Premier League”, said Pellegrini, who will be replaced by Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola at the end of the season.
While Liverpool lost the League Cup final to Manchester City on Sunday, Manchester United were completing an impressive 3-2 home win over Arsenal in the Premier League. Tomorrow morning we can change everything, but now we can change nothing. I’m happy for the performance of the team against a very hard side in Liverpool, everyone remembers the game we lost at the Etihad. “We have to plan for the future”, said Klopp.
Carragher said the defeat was especially disappointing as the League Cup represented perhaps the club’s last genuine chance of silverware this season.
“The title race for us is not really interesting”.

“We deserved to win before the penalties but if you ask me I would prefer to win it this way with Willy the great hero”, the manager told reporters.
