City Hall hosts Holiday Blood Drive
Did you know a pint of your blood can help save 3 lives following component (red cell, platelet, plasma) separation in the next forty-two days? But the Blood Guy, whose real name is Nathan Baker, is also a good guy: He has donated over 68 gallons of blood in his lifetime.

As millions of Americans finish gift purchases this holiday season, the American Red Cross reminds eligible donors to give the most meaningful gift of all – the gift of life – by donating blood or platelets. Donations significantly drop in winter months, however, and raise the need for blood drives this time of the year. It means she still has a year and a half of treatment to go. To encourage donations, all those who come to donate December 23, 2015, through January 3, 2016, will get a long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
“We want to make sure especially around the holidays that’s those patients don’t have to wait for the blood they need”, Katie Marshall, External Communications for Red Cross.
The 10th Annual New Year’s Resolution Blood Drive begins Thursday, Dec. 31 and will be held at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City. He has volunteered as a transportation specialist for six years and drives about 14,000 miles each year. However, you can reserve a donation time.
While all blood types are helping, those with rare blood types have the potential of saving lives with a low chance of survival.
More information on local volunteer opportunities is available online at red crossblood.org.

The 12 Hours of Giving Blood Drive, hosted by American Red Cross, took place at the Par-a-dice Hotel in East Peoria on Monday. The Red Cross urges donors who have made a commitment to donate during the holiday period to keep their appointments. High school students and other donors 18 and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
