This will be the first Super Bowl held in the San Francisco Bay Area since Super Bowl XIX in 1985, and the first in California since Super Bowl XXXVII took place in San Diego in 2003. And KSRO’s own Larry Olson is there to bring it ALL to us…in fact, he put together a story for us about the guts of the Super Bowl 50 work that had to get done for this national extravaganza.
The Super Bowl will be played down in Santa Clara, but the fan gathering for Super Bowl City downtown the week before the February 7 big game will be here in San Francisco at the end of Market Street. “The expectations are high to do something bigger and better than ever”, Souza said. “It’s a platform that facilitates a lot of different things, not just the events, but the ability to host the technology and drive that as another element of the fan experience”.
“There’s a certain rite of passage of going to San Francisco as a tourist, or even a local who lives outside of the city, of every time you go, you have to buy something to keep you warmer”, Hoffman said. The plan is to use this year’s game as a steppingstone, not only to become one of the NFL’s premier destinations for its championship spectacle, but also attract other major sports events such as the Olympics and the World Cup.
City officials said that could be hundreds of millions of dollars, and they point to Phoenix, which generated more than $700 million dollars in the 2015 Super Bowl and New Orleans, which generated almost $500 million dollars in the 2013 Super Bowl.
Super Bowl excitement is building in the Bay Area.
“This is a combination of a two-and-a-half year journey”, said Keith Bruce, CEO and President of the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee. This was a more than 30 percent increase from the last time Arizona hosted the event. And it looks to be a great companion for anyone attending the game. Facebook unveiled a new feature recently that allows people to view live stats, comments from friends, news stories and more by searching for the game.

“When New Orleans hosted the Super Bowl, it brought back the spirit of the city” after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Roth said.
