Clayton Kershaw pitches well for Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in rehab assignment

Puig hit his first homer since being recalled Friday from Triple-A Oklahoma City in the bottom of the third inning, when he propelled LHP Christian Friedrich’s 88 miles per hour fastball into the Dodgers’ bullpen down the left-field line for a three-run drive, his eighth homer of the season.

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who returned to the big leagues on Friday after being demoted to Triple-A for the month of August, hit a 3-run home run off Padres starter Christian Friedrich in the 3rd inning.

San Diego Padres second baseman Ryan Schimpf can not reach a ball hit for an RBI-single by Los Angeles Dodgers’ Chase Utley during the fifth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, in Los Angeles. Despite issuing no walks and inducing 11 groundouts, Perdomo (7-8) allowed five runs and nine hits during his six innings.

San Diego finally scored in the top of the eighth. Luis Sardinas doubled to left field with one out and came home on Wil Myers’ two-out single.

The Dodgers took a 4-0 lead in the fourth with four successive hits against Perdomo.

Puig walked with one out in the seventh, and Grandal, batting from the right side, hit a towering two-run homer, his 23rd of the season, just beyond the reach of the leaping Dickerson at the left-field wall for a 7-4 lead.

He spent six minutes on the hill in the first two innings… total. He struck out just two batters while walking four in the process. In the meantime, he’s primed to come back and try to help the NL West-leading Dodgers make a run at a World Series.

Friday’s game is the start of a 10-game road trip that includes three games against the Yankees. He started on the bench, taking a day off, but entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 5th inning.

Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw is scheduled to make a rehab start at Class A Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday.

Clayton Kershaw, whose aversion to the disabled list is as deep-seated as anyone in baseball, was asked what he learned from the experience of sitting out these last two months because of a herniated disk in his lower back.

“The nine strikeouts for De Leon, the 15th pitcher “” and fifth rookie “” to start for the Dodgers this season, were the second-most by a Dodgers pitcher in his major league debut behind Pedro Astacio (1992) and Kaz Ishii (2002), who each struck out 10.
