“Ain’t nobody covering that big ol’ guy”.

Jake Coker played the game of his career, hooking up with Calvin Ridley for two touchdowns, and going 25 for 30 for a career-best 286 yards. “We just weren’t finishing in the red zone how we needed”. The defense dominated the Sooners even without the services of star end Shaq Lawson, who hurt his knee early in the first quarter.
The Tigers (14-0) advanced to the championship game January 11, when they’ll face the victor of the Cotton Bowl semifinal between Alabama and Michigan State, which was played Thursday night.
The Tigers went up 10-7 in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Watson, capping a seven-play, 96-yard drive.
“We go over all kinds of fake punts every week”, Stoops said. It was just a matter of when. Oklahoma won in 1963 and 1972 before Clemson prevailed in 1989, 2014 and 2015. He also left the game late in the fourth quarter with an apparent head injury.
“We want the big boy”, Watson said after the game. “The whole time we were here, it was total focus on winning the game”. Clemson has lost the last 12 meetings and the games haven’t been close.
Clemson outscored Oklahoma 21-0 during a 15-minute span in the second half to take control of the game.
Despite Clemson’s undefeated record, Oklahoma entered Thursday favored in the game.
“It’s not like we’ve got five seniors up there that have been playing a lot of ball”, co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott said. “We were just running all over them and just really dominated”. That’s what I told them in pregame.
While play could certainly improve, fans were happy to cling to a lead. The Sooners put together a 10-play, 75-yard march, capped by running back Samaje Perine’s 1-yard run.
Watson recovered from an uneven first-half effort, which ended with Oklahoma cornerback Zack Sanchez intercepting him on a jump ball in the end zone.
Clemson might have to come up with a new plan. At times it was true. Surrounded by many unproven parts, there has been no doubt that Watson has been the focal point, the single player most responsible for Clemson’s history-altering run.
The Sooners trailed 23-17 when they were stopped on fourth-and-1 at the Clemson 30. Mackensie Alexander was a shutdown cornerback again.
The Tigers held the Sooners to 121 yards after the intermission and intercepted Mayfield twice, including one by Goodson off a tipped pass and another near the goal line by fellow linebacker Ben Boulware. The offensive line is filled with unknowns, and yet it controlled the line of scrimmage against an experienced Oklahoma defense.

Alabama is seeking its first national title since defeating Notre Dame in 2012. AT&T Stadium in North Texas – where Alabama started its season by blowing out a Big Ten team (Wisconsin) – had turned into Tuscaloosa west. Happy New Year, indeed. “And they did it again tonight”. The fake punt came when Clemson faced a fourth-and-4 from the Oklahoma 44. Clemson defeated Oklahoma 37-17 to advance to the championship game. Instead of rebuilding, Clemson reloaded and defied most all expectations.
