Clemson new No. 1; Stanford moves up to No. 7

The American Athletic Conference has something in common with the Southeastern Conference and Big 12 this week.

Both polls agree on the top four but not in the same order.

No. 22 Navy is ranked for the first time since the final 2004 and ranked in the regular season for the first time since October of 1979.

Clemson moved up to the top spot in the AP Poll after beating the Florida State Seminoles in Death Valley over the weekend.

Bama improved to 8-1 while knocking LSU from the ranks of the unbeaten at 7-1.

In the ACC Championship Game, the Tigers will more than likely be facing the No. 21 North Carolina Tar Heels.

The largest jump came from Oklahoma State, who moved up seven spots to No. 5 after defeating TCU by 20 points in Stillwater.

No. 25 Memphis at No. 16 Houston. Ohio State, 9-0, should be No. 3 after a methodical 28-14 home win vs. Minnesota.

As long as the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes don’t falter at the IL Fighting Illini, at home against the No. 7 MI State Spartans or at the Big House against the No. 17 MI Wolverines, the defending champions should claim a spot in the playoff.

Also moving back into the rankings this week were No. 23 Wisconsin (8-2) and No. 24 Northwestern (7-2). The Tigers’ next game is Saturday against BYU at Arrowhead Stadium, and canceling it could cost the school more than $1 million. The No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide might have a legitimate case. The Bulldogs can still win the SEC West.
