Clemson’s star DE injured in Orange Bowl, expects to play against Alabama
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is an Alabama alumnus who played on the Tide’s 1992 national championship team.

Jimmy Kimmel told people to watch.
Clemson got on the board in the first quarter on kicker Greg Huegel’s 26-yard field goal.
The Orange Bowl between Clemson and Oklahoma, which kicked off about 4:10 p.m. ET on ESPN, drew a 9.7 rating.
Behind Watson, Clemson is ranked 11 nationally in total offense and put up 530 yards of total offense Thursday against an Oklahoma defense that was tied for 29 nationally in total defense.
Now that it has become both deeply excellent and deeply competent, Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin gave a little tour of his units and said freshman receiver “Calvin Ridley had never played, and Jake had never played, and we had nine new starters on offense, and Richard Mullaney, the third receiver from Oregon State”.
In a statement responding to the complaint, Swinney said: “Players of any faith or no faith at all are welcome in our program”.
The No. 2-seed Crimson Tide held No. 3-seed Michigan State scoreless in their 38-0 win in the Cotton Bowl. Tales from practices in December, as Venables played the role of Baker Mayfield, and after Lawson clocked him on a play (“I was running too fast, and I couldn’t stop”, says Lawson), the coach just bounced back up.
Clemson junior outside linebacker Ben Boulware was selected the game’s Defensive MVP after producing eight tackles, one interception, one sack and one tackle for a loss.
What a difference two years can make. “We’ve got four quarters left, or however many it takes, so we’ll be ready”. “In this point, this championship drive, talent doesn’t win a game, it’s the will. They seemed to have that edge and that will in the second half and we didn’t”. After Oklahoma scored easily on the opening drive, the Tigers spent much of the night keeping Mayfield, who over recent weeks had (rightfully) inspired Johnny Manziel comparisons, off balance and in check, something no team accomplished since Texas in early October. December 31 is a Saturday next year. It would have made hellish work of the computations of the College Football Playoff selection committee.
The spot had party goers in formal wear, balloons, college mascots and celebrities – but no one watching a football game.
Social networks were virtually silent about the games compared to the year before. After the dominant performance against Oklahoma’s offense, there’s no more ripping on the Tigers coming up with a one-win season, and that victory turning into a fight against Notre Dame at the end.
Now he will wind up facing his alma mater in Clemson’s biggest game in more than 34 years. The second game was worse: 5.8 million people saw one or more of 464,000 tweets.
Yes, a good ole southern brawl in the desert will decide the 2015 national championship, but the ACC-SEC schism is as real and freighted with meaning as the bitter divide between the SEC and everyone else. “That was it. We did most of our talking on the field”.
The second game in the playoff, the Cotton Bowl in Dallas’ AT&T Stadium, featured second-seeded Alabama and third-seeded Michigan State. But Dec. 31 is a Saturday.
