Cleveland Browns training camp podcast: Johnny Manziel’s arm, Joe Thomas talks
When it happens in games, he tells the trainers he can keep playing and the injury is re-evaluated later.

Manziel was on the field in full uniform for the 11th full-squad practice of training camp Tuesday, though the only balls he tossed were with his left hand.
Putting aside whatever you think of Johnny Manziel as a football player, you might be right or you might be wrong, the simple fact is he’s an unknown.
A suprise today was Johnny Manziel did not practice due to a sore arm, but he is expected to play Thursday. “However he was the man who was experiencing some stiffness”. He’s obviously worked very, very hard every day to be ready. He had a heck of a day mentally, mental reps behind Josh [McCown] and Connor [Shaw] and Thad [Lewis]. It was a good day from that standpoint.
He wasn’t anywhere close to ready last year when the Cincinnati Bengals throttled him in his starting debut.
Shaw and Lewis split the second team snaps between the two of them. Of course, showing Goodell his middle finger will only work if Manziel is in a position of worth, which means being the backup quarterback on the Browns needs to change.
Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas is regarded as one of the better character guys in the NFL, but even the Pro Bowler couldn’t help but to poke a little fun a Commissioner Roger Goodell in “Hey, Tony!” video posted on ESPN Cleveland.
Thomas, who has never missed a play in his eight-year NFL career, yelled as his leg was struck from behind by the 339-pound Shelton. Browns coach Mike Pettine says further testing will be done. We’ve yet to determine that.
“It’s another opportunity to go out there and … showcase my skills and show the coaches that I have learned the stuff that they’ve wanted me to learn, to show that I can go out there and cover NFL receivers”, he said. “Once I got up I knew it wasn’t too bad”, he said. I should be back in a couple days. Receiver Brian Hartline turned an ankle at the end of practice, and 15 players sat out. “I think that was a total setback, and now they are climbing back uphill and that’s why they’re taking a back seat right now”. I was standing with WFNY founder Rick Grayshock and we both kind of looked at each other, “Did Johnny Manziel just throw lefty?” Began to get a bit of sore.
“To me, it’s just dependent on the injury”, Pettine said. Washington using theirs on tackle Brandon Scherff and the Browns spending theirs on DT Danny Shelton. Thomas missed the fourth quarter of that game, which really makes you question his commitment to the program.
“Yeah, but you deal in reality”.
Encouraging the young quarterback when his renewed dedication to football pays off like it did Friday night during the Orange & Brown Scrimmage at Ohio Stadium is the right thing to do. Add to this the fact many assume Cleveland is in for another losing season, and you really don’t get anything remotely close to the insanity of last summer this time around.
