Cleveland Cavaliers Don’t Handle Christmas Disappointment Too Well
The Trail Blazers’ 105-76 beatdown of the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday night at Moda Center was as unlikely as it was impressive.

In Portland, Allen Crabbe scored 21 of his career-high 26 points in the first half to put the Trail Blazers on the road to ending a five-game losing streak.
The Blazers played without injured guard Damian Lillard, but used a team effort that included 15 points from CJ McCollum and another Mason Plumlee double-double (11 points, 14 rebounds).
They scored 34 points, which matches the most the Cavs have given up in one quarter this season, on 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) shooting. At the end of the first, the Cavs trailed, 34-12, and could never dig out of the early hole.
Portland’s offense was as crisp as could be, as they shot 50 percent from the field, 53 percent from long-range and didn’t commit a turnover in the first half. “You can’t let this one linger, you don’t let it get on your mind too much and let it sit”, James said. Coach Jeff Hornacek said Bledsoe had already left the arena for an MRI after the game but added team doctors didn’t think it was a torn ACL.
“I was being very tedious coming back against Philly and New York”, Irving said.
Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili both sat out after playing big minutes in a tough loss Friday night in Houston.
For the first time since coming back after missing the first 24 games of the season, Kyrie Irving looked like himself on Monday night – playing with explosion and confidence, dipping into his old bag of tricks at crunch time. That poor shooting showed up against the Warriors on Christmas, as the Cavs were 30-of-95 (31.6 percent) from the field. “We’re not a bad team all of the sudden”, he said. Kevin Love, who scored 16 points against Phoenix, is expected to play despite a right hand injury suffered in the second half Monday. That’s an accomplishment in itself and this team is going to come out an play hard. Three games into his return, he’s averaging 10 points and 3.3 assists in 20.7 minutes while trying to shake off the rust. What that means is what we’re going to do the next day or next game. It was as close as they came the rest of the way. Guys try to do it all themselves instead, often with three-point shots, rather than attacking and looking for their teammates when the defense rotates.
Blazers: Crabbe established his career high by halftime with 21 first-half points. “We seemed to have a little extra bounce”, Stotts said. We come out here tonight, things aren’t easy, things don’t go our way and we turn into the ugly Rockets again. “We haven’t shot the ball the last two games well. If we do that, we will put us in a good position to win games”. LeBron has struggled from the floor through the first three games of Cleveland’s four-game junket – going a combined 18-for-49, including 1-for-13 from long-distance.

Washington Wizards rookie guard Jarell Eddie, signed on Wednesday, drained four three-pointers as he delivered 12 points off the bench in his National Basketball Association debut to help his new team to a 111-96 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. They shouldn’t be taken lightly, though, considering Cleveland’s loss to Portland during a similar back-to-back game situation. So to a man, starting with me, we have to solve the issue.
