Cleveland Cavaliers Release Statement on Iman Shumpert’s Georgia DUI Arrest

Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Iman Shumpert was arrested on suspicion of DUI on August 10 in Fayette County, Georgia, after he was pulled over during a traffic stop for a lane violation. At this time, the Cavs say they have discussed the matter with Shumpert and will monitor what is a still on-going case.

As the statement said, Shumpert has not commented on his arrest and doesn’t plan to do it.

The statement said Shumpert, an IL native who attended college and played for Georgia Tech, was stopped by police in Fayette County, Georgia on August 10 after a lane change violation. The team said it will not have any further comment while the legal process unfolds.

If guilty, Shumpert will surely face an National Basketball Association suspension next season.

The Cavaliers open training camp September 26.

Shumpert’s arrest occurred occurred outside of Atlanta in Fayette County, Georgia.

Following three-plus seasons in the New York Knicks’ system, the 26-year-old guard was traded to Cleveland within the first few calendar days of 2015 along with J.R. Smith.

Shumpert averaged 5.8 points a game for the Cavaliers last season.
