Cleveland Indians’ Josh Tomlin takes the mound to continue Indians streak

The 23-year-old is coming off one of his most dominant efforts and limited the Tampa Bay Rays to two hits while striking out 10 over seven scoreless innings on Friday. Detroit Tigers catcher James McCann watches.

The Indians had won the first 11 meetings of the season against Detroit before today, which was baseball’s longest active winning streak against one team. Francisco Lindor scored on the play. He did post a 4.15 ERA in two Triple-A starts this season over 8.2 innings. This will be his 11th All-Star Game in 14 seasons, and his seventh in nine seasons with the Tigers.

The Indians are 11-0 against the Tigers this season.

MINNEAPOLIS – Ervin Santana had his best start for Minnesota, tossing his first complete game shutout in more than four years and allowing just two hits in a win over Oakland at Target Field.

“Once we process yesterday we move on, let alone a month ago”.

“Huge”, Castellanos said. “There’s a big difference going into a brand new series having won the last game you played than going into a brand new series having been swept”.

Michael Fulmer (9-2) stymied the Indians for six innings, allowing just two runs on five hits.

Cabrera was the lone member of the Tigers named to the American League All-Star team on Tuesday night, but he could be joined by Ian Kinsler, who is up for the final vote. The Cubs have lost five of their last six games and 10 of 15.

Detroit manager Brad Ausmus believes there’s a simple reason for his team’s problems against Cleveland. “It’s not like we haven’t played good baseball”.

The Tigers offense helped get Fulmer out of a 2 run deficit after the 3rd inning by responding with 3 runs in the 4th inning and 5 runs in the 5th inning.

Miguel Cabrera’s head shook in anger after he was ejected in the sixth inning on Tuesday night.

Chen (5-3) tossed seven innings of three-hit ball, spoiling Jose Reyes’ return to the Mets in his first major league game since a 59-day domestic violence suspension. He was ejected when the umpires didn’t reverse the call. Both men are posting a 1.09 WHIP for the season, so base runners and runs could be hard to come by today. The Indians had two runners on base in the fourth with two outs.

“I don’t want to say it was flat, but it was real quiet in the dugout”, Ausmus said. Kinsler beat the throw, so second baseman Jason Kipnis threw to first. He hit his 16th homer, then doubled home two runs in the seventh off Zach McAllister.

Up next: The Tigers will fly north of the border and do battle with the Toronto Blue Jays in a four-game series.

Tigers: RHP Jordan Zimmermann (right neck strain) underwent an exam Wednesday that revealed no structural damage.

It took over half the season for the Indians to lose to Detroit. “We had leaned on him pretty hard the last two games, so we wanted to try and shorten it”.

“I’m 100 percent healthy right now”, he said. Tomlin came back with a much more tantalizing cutter (86), nasty enough to have gotten an out against numerous batters.
