KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Royals will meet President Barack Obama at the White House on Thursday during a ceremony to honor their World Series title.

KANSAS CITY: The Royals are just 2-7 in their last nine games versus a right-hander starter and are 1-6 in his last seven games when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game.
Salazar (11-3) gave up three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings. He has struck out four times in seven at-bats against the Indians, bringing his strikeout total to an alarming 72 in 215 at-bats. “I went to the All-Star Game and really didn’t do much besides play catch”.
Shaw, Monday’s loser, retired the Royals in order in the eighth as the Indians stretched their lead in division to 6 1/2 games with a 7-3 win.
The Royals will start right-hander Ian Kennedy, who will be facing the Tribe for the fourth time this season.
Salazar did not give up a run until the sixth. Ramirez scored on Uribe’s ground out to Cuthbert. After a groundout, another run scored on a wild pitch by Indians starter Danny Salazar. Both runners moved up on a passed ball charged to Chris Gimenez. It started with Kyle Crockett who entered the game for Salazar with a runner on third in a huge spot in the 7th inning. The Indians also have the best record in the American League. “Like I said, we needed a bounce back win”.
Lindor, who is hitting. Napoli, Lindor and Carlos Santana provided the pop each contributing two RBIs a piece. He is 1-0 with a 2.39 ERA in 13 relief appearances. He struck out Morales and Perez on six pitches before retiring Alex Gordon on a comebacker.
“It felt good to have a good bounce-back inning after Monday”, Shaw said.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A person familiar with negotiations says the New Orleans Pelicans and second-round draft choice Cheick Diallo have agreed to a three-year contract at the National Basketball Association minimum, with a team option in the third season.
Diallo recently played for the Pelicans’ NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas, averaging 10.8 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in five games.
The Indians doubled their lead when they plated another three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

NOTES: Indians LF Michael Brantley is still feeling shoulder discomfort when he completes his swing, and he will have a MRI exam Wednesday. It was his 21st of the season and second since the All-Star break. He pitched just 5 2/3 innings in the minors this season….
