Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson holds meeting on Tamir Rice
Tamir’s mother, Samaria Rice, released a heartbreaking statement decrying the grand jury’s decision, alleging that a prosecutor “deliberately sabotaged the case” and calling for the federal government to step in. The most recent incident of this is the killing of 12-year-old Tamir Rice by Cleveland Police.

“I hope that they’re not there to cause trouble, but we’re working with local law enforcement and doing everything we can including working with community leaders to try to get beyond this”, he said, but he did not discourage the protests.
It was not until after the shooting, with the gun on the ground, that police learned Tamir was playing with a replica firearm that shoots nonlethal plastic pellets, the lawyers said.
While the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cleveland has said it will review the circumstances of the shooting, the legal hurdles to prosecuting a civil rights case are considered especially high. The protesters marched from the playground to the Cincinnati Police Station, making demands for Tamir Rice.
It also accused Mr McGinty of “abusing and manipulating the grand jury process to orchestrate a vote against indictment”.
Tamir Rice’s death came just days before massive protests and unrest would break out in Ferguson, Missouri, and NY after officers in those cities were cleared in the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
The officers have been on restricted duty since the shooting and will remain so through an administrative review, police said.
In a hearing earlier this week to determine any punishments for Loehmann and his field training officer, it was discovered the 911 call taker did not pass vital information on to the police dispatcher, that the gun could possibly be a fake.
Obviously, many people are justifiably shocked and outraged following the grand jury’s decision.
“It’s fine for everybody to take a look at this, and clearly when you lose a 12-year-old, what more can you say about how tragic it is and imagine how the family feels”. The caller specifically mentioned that the person was a child and that the gun was “probably” not real.
Tamir was gunned down by Loehmann within two seconds of the officer’s police cruiser skidding to a stop near the boy outside a city recreation center.
State officials appealed for calm yesterday after a jury decided not to charge a white police officer for shooting dead a 12-year-old black boy who was carrying a toy gun.
They also took pains to show how “real” the pellet gun looked, and McGinty said that “it is now indisputable that Tamir was drawing his gun from his waist” as the police auto approached him, ignoring a report from a biomechanical expert that stated that Tamir had no time to do so before he was shot.
“Tamir’s family is saddened and disappointed by this outcome – but not surprised”, family attorneys said in a statement.
“We have made progress to improve the way communities and police work together in our state, and we’re beginning to see a path to positive change so everyone shares in the safety and success they deserve”, he added.

The grand jury had been hearing evidence and testimony since mid-October.
