Cleveland preps for protests on eve of Republican confab
“In some ways, I’m glad for Trump in what he accomplished, winning the nomination, ” Christie said.

Hamilton County Republican Party chairman Alex Triantafilou, a Kasich delegate, has been telling his party faithful here that he is “all in” with the Trump campaign, now that it is clear Trump will be the nominee. Neither are the last two Republican presidential nominees, U.S. Sen.
“I don’t see that there’s going to be any other nominee besides Donald Trump – no organization has contacted me with any alternative”, said state Sen.
Some Republicans are concerned that Trump isn’t a true conservative.
Many see it as a hostile takeover.
None of the three local delegates headed to the Republican National Convention, which starts Monday, are entertaining any of the rules changes or far-fetched scenarios that would involve someone other than Donald Trump leaving Cleveland as the GOP nominee.
The presidential nominee is traditionally the de facto head of his or her political party.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence immediately called Trump’s proposal in December unconstitutional.
After months of rocky sailing, the controversial businessman had seemed to be heading into the convention with the wind at his back. Their presumed standard-bearer, Hillary Clinton, comes bearing baggage of her own, having recently skirted criminal indictment but taken heavy criticism from the Federal Bureau of Investigation director over her use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state.
“This is very, very new to me”, said Cynthia Schaffer of Tinley Park.
Jones, attending his first national convention, said it’s important Republicans work together to win the White House.
Novak: The convention will be Trump’s ultimate surrogate.
His apparent dithering over a “final, final” decision on Pence could badly undercut his image as a decisive leader.
“He added, “‘Never Trump’ is a losing effort”.
The roll out had also raised serious questions about his campaign’s competence. “Two of the most repulsive and divisive people in history are now running for president of the United States”, Holt said.
While on a path to near-certain victory, Trump has drawn bitter opposition from Republicans who say he’s not conservative and others who predict he will be defeated.
But that has led to few signs of reconciliation.
The rules panel also approved a provision specifically stating that party rules allow delegates to be “bound” to candidates they were committed to by state primaries and caucuses.
That uncompromising tone and lack of magnanimity is unlikely to win him new friends.
“I think this convention will be about advancing Donald Trump’s message and pushing a reset on the campaign, which has already begun”, he said.
“But I also want to feel confident that I’m voting for a person who represents my values”. “I think there’s a real opportunity for a good upbeat convention”. High-end donors included investor and early Trump endorser Carl Icahn and his wife, venture capitalist Stephen Feinberg and Texas investor Darwin Deason, who earlier had been a big contributor to a superPAC backing Ted Cruz.
“It’s over, folks. We need to get behind our candidate”, Iowa delegate Steve Scheffler said to Trump foes during the convention Rules Committee meeting.
“I hope that he becomes the leader that our party needs to have”, Barickman said.
While Trump has his party in Cleveland, Hillary Clinton will be zeroing in on a running mate and prepping for her convention a week later.
Topics to be covered include “national security, immigration, trade and jobs”, according to convention CEO Jeff Larson.

Hate him? Then the convention speakers list is a mishmash of random B- and C-list celebrities mixed with politicians who, by dint of their circumstances or perch, are willing to speak or can’t get out of it.
