REPUBLICAN presidential favourite Donald Trump seems to be losing ground in the national GOP race with a new poll showing rival Ted Cruz is now the leading candidate.
The new Reuters/Ipsos poll results for SC contrasted strongly with the NBC/WSJ verdict, putting Trump a whopping 23 points ahead of Cruz by drawing 40 per cent of voter support. Polls from CBS News, Quinnipiac and USA Today/Suffolk conducted within the last week give Trump between a 15 to 20 points lead.
Trump also tops the field when it comes to the candidate respondents said they will “never” support, with 39 percent vowing not to vote for the real estate mogul. The winners of the SC primary eventually took the GOP nomination in 1980 (Ronald Reagan), 1988 (George H.W. Bush), 1996 (Bob Dole), 2000 (George W. Bush) and 2008 (John McCain).
Rubio, a senator from Florida, made appearances in SC with two prominent endorsers in tow: Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen.
“There are a lot of states in the “SEC Primary” and with Trump having a 21-point lead, it’s really hard to invest assets in Alabama to fight that”, Gray said.

In South Carolina, it seems, the boundaries between once-dependable conservative coalitions have broken down, leaving pollsters and strategists scratching their heads. Cruz took turns with retired brain surgeon Ben Carson and Sen.
But of these three candidates, who has the edge among establishment Republicans?
David Woodard, a political science professor at Clemson University, said Trump seems to be drawing from one part of the Republican voter stream, while his opponents are all drawing from another.

A Trump campaign spokesperson told The Washington Post that they had nothing to do with it. Bush has not had the most success in his campaign, and has been at the receiving end of several jokes for failing to impress voters. “The chances get harder and harder with every win”, Huffmon said.
