Climate “not healthy” for PlayStation Vita successor — Sony

An enterprising hacker and user called “Mr. Gas” from the Hackinformer forum has released a method showing how you can tweak the PlayStation TV’s software compatibility with a simple hack and play games that it’s now not compatible with.

The handheld continues to sell fairly well in Japan, although sales elsewhere in the world have slowed to a trickle.

The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, held an interview today at EGX 2015 about the 20th anniversary of PlayStation.

“People have mobile phones and it’s so easy to play games on smartphones…And many games on smartphones are free, or free to start”.

There are some rather odd quirks in the PlayStation TV, where it does not run every single Vita game flawlessly, since issues pertaining to the touchscreen in select titles crop up from time to time, among others. Therefore, occasional touch-based mini-games shouldn’t be a big concern. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different.

Yoshida added that he hopes that fans are able to keep portables alive, but concluded that the mobile market is dominating more traditional systems these days.

It’s also important to consider that Sony itself is contributing to the obstacle of mobile gaming.

After around a decade playing on Sony consoles, I decided to move this gen to both Nintendo’s consoles and I really enjoy them.

The PlayStation TV from Sony made its way over to the USA in October past year, and there has been not much news about this particular living room peripheral since then. Leave a comment and let us know. Now if we could just get more downloadable PSP and PS1 titles to work on the little microconsole, we’d really be in business.
