Climate webcast from Paris suspended after deadly attacks

Officials in France and elsewhere believe the attacks were coordinated, and France has closed its borders to try to prevent further terrorism.

Networks hustled Friday afternoon to adjust schedules and consider preemptions, Variety reports. ABC switched its regularly scheduled 20/20 for a live edition of the show called “Paris Under Attack”, as did Nightline, which Juju Chang will anchor. NBC canceled its live taping of the comedy Undateable. U2 said that they were devastated seeing the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and that their thoughts and prayers were with the band and their followers. U2 is hoping and praying that all of their fans in Paris were safe. Ahead of the United Nations’ climate conference (COP 21), Gore’s organization The Climate Reality Project will be hosting a live broadcast on November 13th to raise awareness for the climate talks.

A statement for 24 Hours of Realty and Live Earth said it was suspending the event out of solidarity with the people and city of Paris, and expressed condolences.

Coldplay also canceled the Tidal livestream of their concert that was to air from Los Angeles, saying in a statement, “Tonight’s live stream for TIDAL & KROQ has been postponed out of respect for the awful events in Paris…We’ll play a short set of old material so that your journey isn’t wasted”.

Besides Gore, the broadcast was to feature musical performances by Elton John, Duran Duran and others.
