The FBI ended the probe in July, and the Justice Department heeded the bureau’s recommendation of no longer pursuing criminal charges against Clinton.

Clinton said she later directed her aides to create a private email account and said it was “a matter of convenience” to use the home server shared with her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

As the Wall Street Journal points out, several weeks later, Clinton transferred her email address from an AT&T-run service to a private email server, which would eventually transmit and story tens of thousands of emails subsequently determined to be work-related.

Hillary’s “shadow” Huma Abedin told the Federal Bureau of Investigation the former Secretary of State would often use a new phone for a few days before switching back to an older one because she was more familiar with how to use it.

Clinton has said that in hindsight she regretted using a private email system while secretary of state.

Mrs Clinton also said she did not pay attention to the differences between levels of classification, such as “top secret” and “secret”, indicating that she took “all classified information seriously”.

Clinton has repeatedly said that she thought she was preserving her work records by emailing her colleagues on their work emails, which she assumed would be captured by government retention procedures.

Either way, Clinton said she treated the content of the email as a “condolence call” and questioned the classification level. The email with aide Jake Sullivan caused a political uproar earlier this year after being made public.

Brian Fallon, a spokesman for Clinton’s campaign, said the campaign is “pleased” the notes were released.

The FBI has declined to prosecute Clinton over questions regarding her use of private email server while Secretary of State, but the issue has dogged her campaign and fueled one of Trump’s main line of attacks. She said she had no intention of removing classification markings, and that she couldn’t recall actually receiving a “nonpaper” or secure fax. Powell has disputed that he provided much guidance, saying in an interview with a People Magazine reporter that: “Her people have been trying to pin it on me”.

But according to the unidentified person, he didn’t make these changes until the following March, when the existence of Clinton’s email server was revealed.

The specialist then used a program known as BleachBit to delete an unknown number of emails, according to the report. According to the report, the former US Secretary of State asserted that as a result of a concussion she had suffered in December of 2012, she could not remember any briefings on how to handle classified information.

She also said she had no conversations about using a private email server to avoid her obligations under the Federal Records Act or the Freedom of Information Act. The FBI could not determine why she was concerned about a hack or whether the porn link was used to compromise her system.

However, there has been no evidence that the hacking were successful.

But Clinton’s systems administrator Bryan Pagliano was aware of “many failed log-on attempts” to the private server system he set up.

The agency released 58 pages of emails from Clinton, of which 14 were redacted due to their sensitive nature. “Open source information indicated, if opened, the targeted user’s device may have been infected, and information would have been sent to at least three computers overseas, including one in Russian Federation”, the report read. Clinton aides Huma Abedin and Monica Hanley told investigators that Clintons old devices would end up in parts “unknown once she transitioned to a new device”, Politico notes. Most were retroactively classified, but FBI Director James Comey has disputed Clinton’s insistence that none of them were marked as such at the time.
