Clinton apologizes for calling half of Trump’s supporters ‘deplorables’
Speaking to an audience of donors on Friday the Democratic Presidential hopeful said Trump’s campaign had emboldened the prejudiced supporters.

Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, said in her apology that she was “grossly generalistic” in criticizing Trump supporters, using that same phrase Friday night when attacking them at a NY fundraiser.
The former Secretary of State called these Trump supporters all “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, and Islamophobic”, which for her translates into “a basket of deplorables”.
The other half, Clinton said, were millions of people fed up with government’s failure to address problems in their lives.
Speaking at an evening fundraiser in NY, the former USA secretary of state said Trump had given voice to hateful rhetoric from such individuals through his behavior as a candidate for the White House.
He added that millions of Americans support the Republican nominee because, “they are sick of corrupt career politicians like Hillary Clinton”.
Trump’s statement came after Clinton had backed off her disdainful description of half of his supporters. “I regret saying ‘half” – that was wrong, ‘ Clinton said in a statement, on Saturday, the day after comments at a fundraiser in NY.
She then lambasted Trump for hiring a leader of the so-called alt-right movement to run his campaign, and offered a list of Trump’s offensive remarks about Latinos and African Americans. Her lead in national and battleground state polls has narrowed in recent weeks, giving fresh hope to Trump’s supporters. Trump tweeted Saturday morning.
“Hillary Clinton’s low opinion of the people that support this campaign should be denounced in the strongest possible terms”, said Mike Pence, the governor of in and Trump’s running mate, speaking at the Values Voter Summit in Washington.
Clinton then listed a number of “deplorable” things about the Republican presidential candidate. Jim Manley, a Democratic strategist, said that it was not unreasonable for Clinton to highlight bigotry among some Trump supporters, though he said she was also right to tone down her remarks.
Hillary Clinton has verbally banished half of Donald Trump’s backers to a “basket of deplorables”, and the Republican presidential nominee is quickly pouncing.
Clinton has said Trump would do little to heal the nation and only deepen divisions.
“I’m determined to bring our country together and make our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top”, Clinton said.
In a July speech in Springfield, Illinois, Clinton said the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln has been transformed into “the party of Trump”, and she called it “not just a huge loss for our democracy – it is a threat to it” because her rival’s campaign “adds up to an ugly, unsafe message to America”. We vote for a person more so than we do for a political ideology, and there is nothing in Hillary’s personality that engenders loyalty.
Trump is calling Clinton’s comments a “grotesque attack” and questioning how she can be president when “she has such contempt and disdain for so many great Americans”.

Clinton made her initial remarks about Trump supporters at a lavish LGBT fundraiser that featured performances from Barbra Streisand and Rufus Wainwright. You are condescending. You are arrogant, contemptuous, and if you think that your half-assed apology will wipe the slate clean, you are wrong.
