Clinton backs off “deplorable” slur
Thus we find Clinton in the middle of a media storm for saying that half of Donald Trump’s supporters are a basket of deplorables.

Hillary Clinton issued an apology on Saturday, September 10, for slamming half of Donald Trump’s supporters as “deplorables” during a rally on Friday, saying that she “was wrong” to generalize.
Hillary Clinton’s claim that half of Donald Trump’s supporters are a “basket of deplorables” (i.e., racists, sexists, etc.) and are “not America”, as noted by Scott earlier today, spurred outrage from Republicans.
Hillary Clinton grasped at straws while speaking at an LGBT event in Manhattan on Friday night, and wove them into clumsy metaphor that hurt the feelings of people who already hate her.
“Wow, Hillary Clinton was SO INSULTING to my supporters, millions of unbelievable, hard-working people”.
In a more surprising move, he also retweeted a 2012 tweet from Barack Obama, in which the then-campaigning president called for a “president who is fighting for all Americans”.
“I will be a President for Democrats, Republicans, and Independents”, Clinton promised during her Democratic nomination acceptance speech on July 28.
Responding in a tweet, Trump suggested Clinton’s comments would cost her dearly when it comes to voting day.
“It’s deplorable that Trump has built his campaign largely on prejudice and paranoia and given a national platform to hateful views and voices, including by retweeting fringe bigots with a few dozen followers and spreading their message to 11 million people”.
NY businessman Trump, who has never previously run for political office, regularly says things that some consider insulting or off-colour.
“Hillary Clinton’s low opinion of the people that support this campaign should be denounced in the strongest possible terms”, Mike Pence, the governor of in and Trump’s running mate, said at the Values Voter Summit in Washington. With her statement she’s saying that no, she doesn’t actually believe that around 20 percent of Americans are part of “a basket of deplorables”. “If he doesn’t respect all Americans, how can he serve all Americans?”
Although Hillary Clinton is running against a man who casts himself as the ultimate alpha male hero, capable of striking down enemies with mere words, it is Hillary Clinton who brings the towering strength of courage to the stage.
“That other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change”, Clinton continued.
Clinton made the comments before introducing Barbra Streisand at an LGBT fundraiser in downtown NY.
Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill did not back away from the comment, reviving Clinton’s charge that Trump’s campaign has become a vessel for the alternative right, members of which frequently resort to ad hominem attacks based on race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.
He says she’s smeared many Americans and will pay a heavy political price.
Clinton made her remarks about Trump’s supporters at a lavish event that featured performances from Barbra Streisand and Rufus Wainwright. But reporters traveling with her campaign were not allowed in and did not see the Democratic nominee.

Trump has lamented the Obama administration’s decision not to prosecute Clinton on criminal charges over her handling of classified emails while secretary of state.
